Novel peptides Discovery and Development
Peptide story
Peptides regulate various biochemical reactions in living organisms and serve as potential prototypes for numerous drug preparations.
The intensive discovery of peptide biopharmaceuticals has started to search for new biologically active compounds from extracts from various regulatory organs – the pituitary, pineal gland, thymus, spleen, and bone marrow [7].
First-generation pharmaceutical preparations have been prepared based on extracts of peptide hormones [8] and other regulatory peptides [9].
It is well known that the “life cycle” of protein-peptide metabolism permanently occurs in the body. The synthesized proteins fulfill their function and undergo proteolysis, which results in the chain of the hydrolysis products: polypeptides-oligopeptides-short peptides-amino acids. [10].
The isolation process of the individual peptides, as a proteolysis product, was quite complicated the years 1960-2000.
One of the most complex and multifunctional is the immune system. Immunocompetent cells, the production of which occurs in the bone marrow, are distributed throughout the body. The immune and hematopoietic cells are also in the permanent cyclic renewal process – from pluripotent stem cells to differentiated “matured” functional cells [13].
